Black Noise Mains Filters
Harmonic spuria, spikes and noise typically pollute domestic power sources. Systems and Magic's elegantly crafted BlackNoise filters effectively eliminate mains pollution, thus enhancing performance, while protecting costly A/V gear. Nuforce is proud to be the exclusive American distributor of this esteemed Italian product line.
With BlackNoise filters in your system, you will notice the following:
- The music occurs within a deeper silence. With background noise essentially banished, the background itself becomes deeper, revealing details you may not have heard before. Heightened harmonic information improves localization within the soundstage. Instruments and voices will seem to have acquired more “air,” thereby creating a more lifelike dimensionality.
- The smallest details are more evident. For instance, lovers of solo-piano performance will have an easier time distinguishing subtle embellishments and nuance. On a far larger scale, a symphony orchestra’s sections are more readily identified, even during the most dynamic passages.
- The soundstage becomes wider, deploying voices and instruments within a deeper perspective.
- A significant reduction of sonic “veil” results in superior micro and macro dynamics. In short, the system’s significantly cleaner mains power exercises greater control, thus reducing the distortion lesser power supplies impose. Frequency bands become wider, with a deeper, better controlled low end. High frequencies are clearer and more accurate, as exemplified by the tactile qualities of solo voices and instruments, and instrumental
ensembles.
BlackNoise mains filters and power distributors impose effective defenses against voltage spikes, disruptive pulses and surge events from 250V~ and up, with an activation delay of less than 25ns. This protection has been specifically designed to absorb up to 25,000 amps for pulse events between 8 and 20μs, or 640 amps up to 2ms* between live and neutral, and also between neutral/ground and live/ground.
Other applications:
BlackNoise units can be connected to DVD players, TV sets, video projectors, multi-channel setups, personal computers, computer monitors, LCD plasma panels, mixers – in other words, any domestic or professional audio or video application requiring maximum protection against pulses, current peaks and networked power-supply spuria. Depending on network conditions, BlackNoise provides deeper contrast and color saturation, along with clearer whites to TV sets, monitors and projectors. The end-user can also look forward
to the elimination or attenuation of snow and flickering, resulting in better detail and picture resolution.
Other features:
- Extreme and 2500 models employ fully passive mains filter divided into four progressive filtering cells on neutral and live conductors, plus two progressive filtering cells on the ground line.
- Rather than a fuse, BlackNoise uses a resetable thermal switch capable of handling high switch-on current peaks generated by downstream devices (e.g. power amps) while protecting the filter from continuous loads exceeding its rated current. When thermal protection kicks in, the blue LED turns off.
- All capacitors are double-metalized, “self-healing” polypropylene, i.e., capable of self-restoration should the dielectric destabilize due to excessive voltage.
- Features include toroidal inductors woven around ferro-magnetic, synthesized cores, highly stable power-handling resistances, and Teflon-insulated shields.
- Components are soldered to a vetronite motherboard bearing 70μ tinned copper tracks equivalent to 2.5-square-mm of solid-core wire.
- The circuitry is enclosed within an epossidic resin with outstanding thermal stability and mechanical strength, resulting in silent filtration insensitive to external vibration.
- A 4-mm-thick extruded and anodized aluminum case milled by digitally-controlled machines significantly limits external and internal EMI and RFI fields.
Recommended Configurations:
- Extreme Performance: AC mains --> Eight --> multiple 500, 2500 and Extreme. The ultimate setup is to isolate each source device with an Extreme filter.
- High Performance: AC mains -> 2500 and 500
- General Purpose: AC mains -> Eight

Extreme

US MSRP $995
Two or more filters applied in the same audio setup achieve an optimal synergistic effect with respect to overall sound quality along with complete isolation from the mains network, including the separation
of low-level signals from high-level signals typical, for example, of power
amps. Devices with high-power demands inject significant disturbances over lower frequency bands. Low-power gear such as CDPs and DVDs typically project their disturbancesover much higher frequencies. The Extreme has been designed to operate optimally with low-level signals.
Specifications:
- Full power over 110V at 110W (1A)
- Mains harmonics roll-off: -3db at 1.8Khz, -6db at 2.2kHz, -43db at 10kHz, -60db at 20kHz, -103db at 100kHz, -170db at 1MHz, -100db at 100MHz+
- Defenses against voltage spikes, disruptive pulses and surge events from 250V~ and up, with an activation delay of less than 25ns. This protection has been specifically designed to absorb up to 25,000 amps for pulse events between 8 and 20µs, or 640 amps up to 2ms* between live and neutral, and also between neutral/ground and live/ground.
- Dimensions (W x L x D): 4 x 1.6 x 12.8, ~7.7 pounds

2500

US MSRP $1195
In contrast to the Extreme, we have configured the 2500 to deal with the rigors and demands of high-power amps without the imposition of dynamic compression. In addition to providing protection, the 2500 effectively eliminates mains noise and harmonic spuria. The 2500 and its smaller brother, the 1000, work well with electrostatic speakers.
Specifications:
-
Full power over 110V at 1100W (10A)
-
Mains harmonics roll-off: -3db at 1.4Khz, -6db at 6.6kHz, -23db at 10kHz, -44db at 20kHz, -86db at 100kHz, -150db at 1MHz, -100db at 100MHz+
-

500

US MSRP $850
The 500 in some ways is the “mule” of all BlackNoise stable: it adapts itself well to any condition without any particular preference, being able to power either sources, preamps, power amps or integrated ones. The mains harmonics attenuation level is second only to the Extreme and with 500 W of maximum absorption to its disposal, the 500 is at ease in the great majority of situations.
Specifications:
- Full power over 110V at 220W (2A)
- Mains harmonics roll-off: -3db at 2.5Khz, -6db at 3kHz, -38db at 10kHz, -55db at 20kHz, -100db at 100kHz, -160db at 1MHz, -100db at 100MHz+

Eight

US MSRP $695
Our Model Eight Power Distributor can be connected to BlackNoise filters to increase available power outlets. This unit provides excellent filtering action while doubling voltage and spike protection.
In contrast to similar devices, the Eight’s outlets are wired in star mode rather than serially. In this arrangement, the three wires dedicated to each outlet join together at the IEC inlet. Since each outlet is directly connected to the mains line, it operates independently, thereby reducing mutual interference.
Specifications:
-
Defenses against voltage spikes, disruptive pulses and surge events from 250V~ and up, with an activation delay of less than 25ns. This protection has been specifically designed to absorb up to 25,000 amps for pulse events between 8 and 20µs, or 640 amps up to 2ms* between live and neutral, and also between neutral/ground and live/ground.

Derive!

US MSRP $495
Employing the same build quality as all BlackNoise products, the Derive has been designed as a power distributor without filtering and voltage-protection circuits and is therefore best employed as an outlet-extender for BlackNoise filters with their own excellent protection circuits.
Specifications:
-
Dimensions (W x L x D): 4 x 1.6 x 12.8, ~7.7 pounds
