P-9
Henry Wilkenson, Audiophilia

Impressive is one of the ways to describe the NuForce P-9. Given its stellar sonic performance and its price point, I can honestly be call it a bargain.

Vade Forrester, SoundStage!

"The P-9 is one of the most neutral, uncolored line-stage preamps that I've heard, lacking any of the solid-state nasties that have kept my preamp choices firmly in the tube camp." "High frequencies were clean and clear, displaying gobs of detail." "On the other end of the spectrum, the P-9's bass was just about ideal. It was very deep, powerful, fast, and detailed." "Like the legendary straight wire with gain, the P-9 sounds like whatever source component you connect to it."

My time with the P-9 was an absolute joy for me and a select few who dropped by for a listen. It's synergy of excellent fluidity, unbridled macro and micro dynamics with a naturally hefty midrange, extended highs, authoritative lows as well as apparently extremely low amounts of distortion, have placed the P-9 at a truly reference level. It possessed an alluring amount of ebb and flow that allowed me to forget I was listening to electronics and simply put the music up front and center.
The P-9 has the astounding musical treasure of allowing me to hear more of each individual part but never at a sacrifice of the whole. With as much differentiation and delineation I heard, I felt it imparted greater musical meaning to the whole of each performance. Never once did I grow weary or suffer from audio fatigue with the Nuforce in place.

5 Stars Recommendation: High resolution high end preamplifier with a wonderfully engaging sound from head to toe. FOR: atmospheric treble, bass grip and speed, midband detailing, overall musicality. AGAINST: nothing at the price.

John E. Johnson, Jr. Secrets of Home Theater & High Fidelity

I listened to a ton of discs with the NuForce and . . . well, let me put it this way: preamplifiers - and all audio components for that matter - don't sound good on their own. They don't improve the sound. The idea is to not subtract from the signal passing through them. So, when a product is stated to sound terrific, what is meant is that the product does not change the sound from the source. And that characterizes the P-9

P-8
Chris Martens, AVGuide & The Absolute Sound, USA

...Both the Metis and P8 are sonic overachievers that offer different but complementary interpretations of the absolute sound...if the Metis is a tube preamp with some solid state-like qualities, then the NuForce P8 is its complementary opposite-a solid-state preamp that offers certain tube-like virtues...the P8 is quieter, more flexible, and more revealing of subtle inner details, and it offers greater definition, broader frequency response, and unequivocal superior bass. Both preamps compete effectively with models twice the price, and either would make a splendict introduction to the world of high-end separates...

First of all, the unit has been compared with very high quality tube preamplifiers. In absolute terms, very few units can go through such a test without showing any flaw. In particular the sound is only very slightly less liquid and smooth than the references, which is in my view already a great success. Secondly, the unit has a few areas (transparency and precision, in particular) in which its performance is better than the references. Finally, if you just compare P-8 tag price with any decent preamplifier on the [Italian] market, you'll realize that, apart a few products of minor brands, this unit is probably the less expensive available. So, you simply should not expect it to be as good as the best units, costing ten or more times.
